Great King Or Great Monk

Siddhartha Gautama, Buddha's mother, had a vision of a white elephant in her womb. This meant that her son would be a great king or a great monk.
Saddly, Siddhartha's mother died soon after his birth. But his father and mother already decided that he would become a king. To insure this, the king said that Siddhartha should never see old age, disease, death, or religious renunciation.
One day, Siddhartha and his father went on a chariot ride. On this ride Siddhartha saw an old man on the verge of death, a man with a disfiguring disease, a funeral procession for a corpse, and a holy monk displaying renunciation.
After he saw this, Siddhartha left the palace, cut his hair, and went on the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment through a life of austerity.
Siddhartha went on to seek enlightenment, so to do this he sat under a fig tree to meditate until he found enlightenment or starve to death. He reached enlightenment through the gods help, then he changed his name to Buddha, which means awakened one.
Sadly, Buddha died by eating a spoiled piece of pork given to him as an offering.
