  • Hi, I'm James Madison and I was the main architect of the United States Constitution and the 4th president of the U.S. During the Revolution, I helped draft Virginia's state constitution and served in the Continental Congress.
  • Hey Im Benjamin Franklin. I was an inventor, scientist, printer, politician, and diplomat. I helped to draft both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
  • Hi, I'm George Washington, I was the commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution and the first president of the United States of America. I was also a planter, surveyor, and land speculator.
  • On May 14, 1787, The Constitutional Convention took place in Philadelphia to discuss improvements to the Articles of Confederation.
  • In order to pass the Consitution, we need to have compromises so that it will be acceptable to each of the states.

James Madison created "Notes of Debates in the Federal Convention" In 1787 that provided the source of information about the debates and compromise processes of the Convention

  • George Washington was the President of the United States during the Constitutional Convention. The Articles were considered to be an ineffective governing document. They established a very weak central government that had no ability to levy taxes or regulate trade so the decided to make the three compromises.
  • The three-fifths compromise composed of the population of slaves that would be counted as three-fifths in total when apportioning Representatives, as well as Presidential electors and taxes. The Three-Fifths Compromise was proposed by James Wilson and Roger Sherman, who were both delegates for the Constitutional Convention of 1787.
