  • Andrew Jackson was the Democratic Republican candidate for the 1824 election.
  • The Corrupt Bargain
  • So I will help you will because I am Speaker of the House,
  • and I will make you Secretary of State.
  • John Quincy Adams was the National Republican candidate for the election of 1824.
  • John Quincy Adams wins the 1824 Election!
  • Andrew Jackson got the most votes for the popular vote, and the most votes in Electoral College, but since he didn't have the majority, the vote went to the House of Representatives.
  • The Election of 1828...
  • Because Henry Clay was not going to win and he hated Andrew Jackson, he made a deal with John Quincy Adams. Clay would use his influence as Speaker of the House to help Adams get elected, and then Adams would make Clay the Secretary of State.
  • John Quincy Adams became the 6th president of the United States of America because of his Corrupt Bargain with Henry Clay.
  • It was a corrupt bargain between him and Clay!
  • The election of 1828 was one of mudslingers and insults. This set the stage for all future elections. Because the people were upset with Adams' dour personality and the Corrupt Bargain, Andrew Jackson won the election of 1828, becoming the 7th president of the United states.
  • Andrew Jackson! A fighter, not a writer!
  • John Q. Adams! We want a man, not a donkey!
