Storyboard Text

  • I'm John Dalton. I'm a renowned chemist for my research and theories about atoms. My work was very influential in the 1800's when it was new news to people.
  • I was the first to suggest the shape of the atom, a sphere like a marble, I was the first to suggest and conclude that all atoms of an element were the same, and that in compounds atoms aren't destroyed or made.
  • In fact, I was also the first to suggest standard notation for atoms, such as this one for Hydrogen.
  • My Atomic model was widely accepted throughout the scientific community for many years, and most of it is still accepted as the truth.
  • This compound is water, HO as I believed it to be. As you can see, I didn't believe that elements combined and became something new, I believed they were unchangeable and simply interacted.
  • Atoms were spherical, and so I thought that molecules must be as well. When atoms are combined or separated, they cause reactions such as energy being released as well. If an Oxygen came off of this, it would release some heat energy.
