Storyboard Description

In these chapters we learn a little more about assignments and family units. The baby boy who was close to being released joins the family. This is only temporary. Lily notices the boy has the same eyes as Jonas. There are only three people in the whole community with the same eyes as Jonas. There are all different assignments and they are chosen for you by a committee of elders who observes what you are good at. Lily says she wants to be a birth mother, but her mom says there is no honor in that assignment. You only get 3 births then you are a laborer for the rest of your life. Jonas and his friend Asher as playing catch in this chapter with an apple. For a brief moment the apple CHANGES in front of Jonas, but Asher does not see it. There is something curious about what happened, so Jonas takes the apple home even though it is against the rules. Jonas volunteers with his friend Fiona in the house of the elderly. As he is bathing Larissa (an elderly lady) she tells Jonas all about Roberto and Edna's release ceremonies. She says Edna's was really boring, but Roberto's was lovely. They told stories about his life and accomplishments then he was released and he wore a look of pure happiness on his face!

Storyboard Text

  • The baby boy joins the family to try and help his nurturing. Everyone thinks he is cute and he has the same eyes as Jonas. Only 3 people in the community have the same eyes as Jonas. Jonas, the baby and a little girl who is a FIVE.
  • Jonas and his silly friend Asher play catch with an apple. Asher is clumsy and bad with language. He constantly gets into trouble. For a moment Jonas notices a CHANGE in the apple. Asher doesn't see it. Jonas decides to take the apple home even though it is against the rules because he is curious about the CHANGE.
  • Jonas volunteered in the House of the Old helping to bathe the elderly. He volunteers with his friend Fiona.
  • The elderly lady told Jonas about the last release ceremony. She said it is a joyous time where they tell stories of the elderly who are getting released. It is a time of pure happiness.
  • Jonas is also told that no one is allowed to see where people go when they are released. Volunteer hours start when you are an EIGHT. This is your first time of choice in the community.
