  • When the hero makes an important discovery: Moana finds out that she descended from voyagers. This leads her to try to follow her heart and sail the ocean, which happens for most of the movie.
  • Hubris
  • Audience feels pity and fear: When Moana is constantly told that she can't follow her heart of sailing the ocean and she is yelled at by her dad for wanting to sail out into the ocean.
  • Nemesis
  • Hero's flaw that leads to downfall: Maui is extremely self centered and he does whatever it takes to get what he wants done.
  • Peripeteia
  • Hero's extreme pride and disrespect for natural order: Maui doesn't care that the land is dying because he stole the heart of Te Fiti.
  • Unavoidable fate due to hubris: Moana has to travel with Maui so he can put the heart of Te Fiti back. They experience many trials.
  • Reversal of fate or fortune: They do restore the heart of Te Fiti and the land is saved.
