The concept of belonging deals with both acceptance and rejection. An individual’s upbringing creates a powerful influence over their sense of belonging. Finding a positive sense of belonging can help an individual to move on from negative groups they may have belonged to.
Significant prejudice stresses people, relationships, families, and nations. It promotes aggression, violence, injury, and death. The son was really depressed because he was thinking there would be prejudice and judgement in his life especially his mother because he's gay. The mother is upset to see her son depressed and uncomfortable because at this stage she doesn't know why he's feeling bad. The son's negative feelings at the idea that he may have to face non acceptance by his mother is shown in his face expressions and body language. The mother's feelings and nervousness about her son is also shown in her facial expressions and body language.
As he came out, confessing to his mother about his sexuality, his barriers and frustration were all set aside. His mother looked and smiled at him, whispering to him how much he is worth to her and how precious he is to her, she loves him just the way he is.
