The sample used in the Griffiths study was a total of 60 participant. 30 Regular gamblers ( 29 Males, 1 Female) 30 Non-Regular gamblers ( 15 Males, 15 Females)
The participants were then separated into the thinking aloud and not thinking aloud group. These were slip evenly with 30 in each group ( 15 regular gamblers, 15 non-regular gamblers)
Each participant was given £3 to gamble in the fruit machine. This gave them 30 free gambles.
As the participants were playing on the machine quantitative and qualitative data was gathered. Below are some examples of the data; Total number of plays Total minutes in play
Once the participants had had 60 gambles they could choose weather to carry on with their winnings or stop.
The participants were then asked about their perception of skill through post experiment semi structured interviews.
