The journey of Egeria to visit Mount Sinai
Egeria walked through the desert in the Sinai Peninsula to go to Mount Sinai where Moses received the 10 commandments. They reached a valley where Mount Sinai became visible a far away, and there were graves all around, called the graves of lust.
Egeria and the other pilgrims arrived at a small monastery at the foot of the mountain. The next day, they climbed up the mountain using a set of stairs that went straight up the mountain.
At the summit of one of the smaller peaks of the mountain, Egeria saw a small church and spoke to the monk inside the church. When Egeria and the others arrived at any Holy place they read from the bible the appropriate passage and prayed.
Egeria and the others listened to a service by the monks in the little church where the monk lived. After the service, Egeria and the others were taken to the cave where Moses went to receive the second set of tablets.
After coming down from the mountain, they went to see the burning bush where God had given Moses his mission, as well as the rock where Moses had broken the first tablets given to him by God.
The guides also showed Egeria and the other pilgrims where Moses and the Israelites had lived in the desert for those forty years. They gave thanks to God for him allowing them to see these wonderful things.
