  • Introduction
  • Central Conflict
  • It will take some time before you realize you've gained intelligence, Charlie.
  • I don't feel smarter.
  • Rising Action
  • In the short story, "Flowers for Algernon" the protagonist is Charlie Gordan. Charlie Gordan is a man who is mentally disabled. By chance Charlie is able to change his life through a surgery that will make him double the amount of intelligence he has.
  • Climax
  • Charlie undergoes a surgery that will triple his IQ. Due to gaining a lot of knowledge; Charlie starts seeing the world in a new light that effects his mentality. 
  • Falling Action
  • Charlie after acquiring a lot of intelligence, learns that he'll lose his intelligence. This is after Charlie learns about why the rat named Algernon that underwent the same surgery as Charlie died.
  • Denouement
  • Charlie starts distancing himself from people that are dear to him, such as his new lover and teacher Miss Kinnian. During this time Charlie starts slowly and painfully losing his intelligence. Charlie resolves to not lose his artificial intelligence.
  • GO AWAY!
  • Charlie loses all his intelligence in the end, and decides to move out of New York.
  • Charlie ends up not continuing his progress reports. Because of this, we do not know if Charlie also met the same fate as his friend Algernon. Charlie may have also not have moved out of New York; and he only lied about moving.
