Storyboard Text

  • We all are, sweetie. At least you are all ok.
  • Mama, I'm scared!
  • Hazel? Are you in there, honey? Hazel? Hazel? It's all right. It's me, Stella. Don't be scared, baby girl. I'll take you to your mama.
  • I'm not coming! There's red fire everywhere
  • Stella Mills was out one night, walking her best friend Caroline home, when she noticed a strange glow ahead. It glowed like the setting sun, but it was bright orange like no sun she'd seen before. She thought of the night, not so long before when the Ku Klux Klan was burning their cross.
  • What you did was incredibly brave. Thank you.
  • Of course! Hazel is just as important as anyone else.
  • Later that night...
  • Stella quickly realized what it was. The Spencer house! It was burning! She ran towards the house. People had already started tossing water on to it. There were thirteen Spencer children. "Are they all ok?" Stella wondered.
  • All the children seemed to be present until suddenly, Mrs. Spencer realized that Hazel was missing. Stella thought about where she might be and recalled Hazel asking her to help her draw a hole in a tree with snakes. Stella ran into the forest and found Hazel hiding in a tree. She didn't want to come but eventually Stella got her to.
  • Dear Lord, we thank you that no lives were lost in the fire yesterday.
  • In the morning...
  • Stella got back and no one could stop praising her. "Thank the lord our Hazel is okay! We could never thank you enough!" Mrs. and Mr. Spencer said to her. Still, the house was in flames.
  • That night, all Stella could think about was fire and water and ghosts and dragons, like the leader of the Ku Klux Klan. She wouldn't be able to sleep that night.
  • The next morning at church, many people that normally only came on holidays were there. The spencer family rushed in and Paster Patton began preaching.
