  • [Slavery] North v.s South
  • Somewhere in he middle of nowhere...
  • What are you talking about! They can't take MY property away!
  • For the 5th time today! Slaves are not property! They are PEOPLE!
  • [Slavery] Dred Scott Case- In Detail
  • At the Missouri Circuit Court...
  • Mr.Scott I'm afraid that we cannot file the law sue. Slaves do not have the right to sue for their freedom.
  • THATS UNFAIR!
  • [States Rights] Georgia
  • In Georgia...
  • If I don't get what I wan't I might as well just leave!
  • What?! You wan't just LEAVE! After all we've gone through?!
  • The north and the south have been arguing over slavery for many years and eventually got so bad that it started a war. Southerners argued with the northerners that slaves were property and that the government have no rights to take it away their property away from them. The northerners on the other hand thought that slaves were still people and not property,
  • [States Rights] Sectionalism and Nullification
  • But we deserve to earn more than what they give us! It's NOT enough!
  • During the Dred Scott case, Scott and his wife filed a law sue that since they were in a free state, they have the right to be free slaves. They were rewarded their freedom, but was later reversed by the supreme court and sent back in the fields. Many people from the north were furious at this decision and tension grew among southerners and northerners
  • [Compromise] Agreements
  • Division in Georgia was mainly between small farmers and non-slave holders (who wanted to stay in the union), against large farmers and slave holders (who wanted to leave) who had a social and economic stake in the constitution of slavery. Ultimately the general assembly voted 208 to 89 in favor of seceding from the union.
  • [Compromise] Southern States Secedes
  • The north and the south differ on the concepts of states rights through sectionalism and nullification. The south was in favor in nullification because of the high tariffs demanded by the north. They also identify them as their own state rather than a whole union.
  • Their placing too much taxes on us! It's unfair!
  • During the Compromise of 1850 California was the enter USA was a free state. Since the free states now had more power, the north said that they would return any slaves that escape to the north. This released tension between the north and the south. Georgia, who was also involved in the compromise, approved because of the fugitive slave act.
  • Northerners were required to return any runaway slaves back to the south to their masters
  • South Carolina, the first state to secede, left the union because of the results in the election of 1860. Abraham Lincoln ran as the republican party and won with most of the electoral votes from the north. More states started seceding after South Carolina left the union.
