The Old immigrants treated the New immigrants like garbage and felt like they deserved respect from the new immigrants.
New immigrants had to face the fear of whether the boat was going to sink or if they fell of the boat and other negative stuff happening to them.They hoped for better living conditions and more job opportunities to take care of themselves and their family.
Nativists treated immigrants like dirty people and because they didn't like foreigners they decided to take action and they also let the federal level know and they came up with acts like Chinese Exclusion Act and some other laws.
It was called the Gilded age because it was the time of rapid economic growth and the time of poverty and people were more focused on getting richer.
Life was in between working and upper class which meant sometimes they had the money to do some stuff but some times it was the opposite. They did jobs like education, construction et cetera. Sometimes the had to settle for less than they normally do.
It was really stressful they had to work 2 or 3 hobs to make ends meet. It helped them have houses to stay with their family. It was viewed as a way not to only personally converts but socially reform.
