Once upon a time in the city of Winnipeg lived a man named George and his family. George had just returned from war and was looking for a job.
The next day George went to the town to look for a job so that he could earn money to buy food. When he got to the town all the shops were closed.
We want better jobs
We deserve better
Before George had left for war a carton of milk had cost 20 cents and now it cost almost 40 cents. No one in town would give him a job because they couldn't pay him. Life was tough.
Maybe I should join. Hmmmm
George had to do something for his family but he didn't know what. Their family's home was falling apart and in need of repair. If George couldn't find a job he might have to go to a work camp. George didn't want to leave his family.
One day when George was in town looking for a job he met a group of strikers. They told him about how they had been protesting to the city. They asked if he wanted to join. He could help make a change.
George went home and thought about it. The strikers wanted better paying jobs and so did George. He thought about how the city hadn't helped him after he had been a soldier at war fighting for them He decided that he would join the strike for his family.
