How Polar Bears Got Their Thick Fur
BY ADITI KUDVA
In this picture, there are two polar bears. This shows variation because one has thick fur and one has thin fur. Variation is the difference in condition. The polar bear with thick fur is most likely to survive, and not the one with thin fur, because it will die from the harsh winters from there home.
These two polar bears are competing for survival. The one with thick fur will 100% live because it has its thick fur will protect it from freezing to death. Because the other polar bear has thin fur, it probably won't survive.
Competition is the interaction between organisms/species in which both are harmed
The polar bears with thin fur slowly started to die off and there was a much bigger population of thick furred polar bears. These polar bears will pass on their genes to their babies so they can survive as well.
Survival of the fittest is which group of that species gets to live because it has the adaptation of thick fur.
Evolution is change over time.
The thick furred polar bear mated and produced many other thick furred polar bears. The population evolved into a safer environment in which everyone has protection.
