  • The citizens of Paris captured Bastille a hated fortress and prison that was a symbol of royal power. This was the first attack of the French Revolution.

  • In the French Revolution America stayed neutral between the French and Britan
  • Jay's Treaty
  • George Washington announced the Neutrality Proclamation which stated that  America would not take sides with any European countries that were at war. Washington believed this was the safest plan.    
  • American privateers were asked by the French to help fight England. This violated U.S. neutrality so Washington said "No." 
  • Jay's treaty settled the disputes that had arisen between the United States and Great Britain. Britain would pay the damages on seized American ships and abandon there forts in America. America would have to pay there war debts.
