Storyboard Text

  • Thomas Putnam is reaching out for land!
  • I know not what a witch is.
  • I have broke charity with the woman, I have broke charity with her.
  • Do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse
  • We have proof sir. They are all deceiving you.
  • Ah? And the other Girls? Susanna Walcott, and--- the others? They are also pretending?
  • Excellency, you surely cannot let so vile a lie be spread in open court.
  • Never.
  • She never saw no spirits, sir.
  • Aye, sir.
  • Danforth thought it was effrontery when Giles came into the court interrupting the trial. Giles didn't want his wife to be hung, so he was panicked, and angered.
  • Faint!
  • Why? What is lacking now?
  • I- cannot faint now
  • For Danforth, the fact that the girls were deceiving him with lies was imperceptible to him. He would not believe Francis nurse and John Proctor.
  • Envy is a deadly sin, Mary.
  • It's Dramatic Ironic that they won't believe Mary Warren who is telling the truth, and we know Abigail is telling lies to everyone.
  • I denounce these proceedings, I quit this court!
  • Parris and Danforth want Mary Warren to prove she can fake faint inside of the whole court. Mary Warren claims she can't do it in front of the court. She later came to say she thought she saw spirits, which means she never actually saw the spirits.
  • Abigail is claiming that she sees a bird. Abigail claims that the bird is the spirit of Mary Warren attacking her. This is bot Dramatic Irony and symbolic. The bird symbolizes Abigail's wrath, and how she uses the lies to get her way, and it's dramatic Irony because we know there are no spirits, but most of the court believes there are.
  • Hale decides to leave the court. Hale quits because of all the people who are lying, which in the end leads him to trust John Proctor. This is symbolic to how the trials are just a bunch of lies, which there is almost no way to tell who is telling the truth.
