Martin Luther was a German monk who was involved and a key part of the Protestant Reformation. He was a key figure in Christian History.
Martin Luther believed that the Catholic Church was corrupt and he had a huge problem with indulgences , which were pardons for sins, for money. Martin Luther then took action and wrote 95 problems he had with the church, called the 95 Thesis.
The Protestant Reformation has began!
Martin then nailed the 95 Thesis to a church door in Wittenburg, Saxony, Germany on the 31st of October 1517. This then started the Reformation.
I have finally done it!
The Pope of the Catholic Church then met with Martin Luther to discuss Luther's problems with the Church. They couldn't come to an agreement because Martin believed that every person should have authority over religion, rather than relying on clergy.
The news of what Martin Luther did had now spread across Germany and the rest of Europe. The Protestant Reformation had now began and it went on from the 1500's until 1648. After he spoke out he had many supporters on his side.
After Luther went on and abandoned the authority of the Popes and councils, He guided his new Religion. Martin Luther then went on and started the Christian branch, named Protestantism. This religion spread throughout Europe and even Further.
