  • Abraham Lincoln created the 13th amendment to abolish slavery so he made this amendment to free the people because he believed everyone was equal.

  • The whites in the South believed tha having African Americans be equal to them was not accuratem and still saw themselves as higher in power

  • No one was against the amendment, because freedmen had already been staying in the North.
  • Slaves were freed, but most whites still segregated and discriminated the African Americans, and they still had no rights, and were not treated equally or fairly.
