• ﻿Hello, My Name is Mrs. Naomi. I will be you guys chemistry teacher this school year. ﻿
• ﻿﻿﻿Welcome Back Students!
• ﻿Mrs. Naomi seems like a very nice.
• I agree, this year won't be so bad. ﻿
• ﻿﻿﻿Objective:  Today we will be learning how to compare Effusion Rates. Do Now : How much faster does Helium (He) effuse than nitrogen ( N2 ) at the same temperature?
• The knowns are MOLAR MASS He=4.0g   MOLAR MASS N(2)= 28.0g
• ﻿The unknown of this equation is the ratio of effusion.
• Helium effuses nearly 3x faster than nitrogen at the same tempertature. ﻿
• To solve the problem we have to use Graham's Law of effusion. ﻿
• Using molar mass and rate. ﻿
• Okay, now you will substitute the molar masses of ﻿nitrogen & helium.
• Rate of Helium over rate of nitrogen will equal mass of nitrogen﻿2
• once you have the equation you will solve. ﻿
• You will then cancel g which is grams and divide 28 by 4 and you will get 7.0= 2.7
• You will then plug in 4.0g for rate of N2 and then you will put in 28.0g for the Ratehe
• Well Done Students! You all have mastered Graham's Law!﻿
