Please save us from Gilgamesh!
Gilgamesh was a cruel and hateful leader so the people of Uruk prayed to their gods to be freed from Gilgamesh.
Anu, the father of all gods, created a double of Gilgamesh named Enkidu to rival him. Enkidu was raised by animals.
The goddess Ishtar sent the priestess Shamat to show Enkidu human love. She took Enkidu to meet Gilgamesh, and the two men had a wrestling match that ended in a tie because they realized they were evenly matched. Then they became friends.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu killed the monster Humbaba. They went back to Uruk and Ishtar offered to marry Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh said no, and Ishtar sent the Bull of Heaven to kill them out of anger. They killed the Bull of Heaven, but Enkidu was injured in fight and died.
Due to the death of Enkidu, Gilgamesh sought immortal life, so he went to the only man who was granted immortality, Untaphishtim. Utnaphishtim then told him the story of how he became immortal.
After the story told by Utnaphishtim, Gilgamesh came to the realization that only the gods could grant immortality, and when he went back to Uruk, he became a kinder ruler to his people.
