Storyboard Text

  • foreshadowing
  • The title of the story is in fact an example of foreshadowing. The word "Cask" which stands for casket, is seen in the title "The Cask of Amontillado" which refers to where someone lays after death. The title shows that the story involves death.
  • "I said to him 'My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met'"(Poe 62). This is verbal irony because Montresor's intentions are to murder Fortunato, in which Fortunato is not actually luckily met by Montresor.
  • irony
  • foreshadowing
  • Fortunato states "I shall not die of a cough." Montresor replies "True--true"(Poe 64), knowing that he will eventually die not from the cough but, in the cask.
