The Industrial Revolution increased Urbanization because of all the jobs and new factories there were so many people moved to the cities.
Thousands of immigrants from all over the world came every year to the U.S looking for any job. Building railroads was a common type of cheap labor for those immigrants
Free African Americans in the north faced a lot of discrimination. Due to this there was a lot of segregation in the north where white schools were separated from black and this segregation happened in many cases.
Instead of big cities in the south there were large plantations which consisted of cash crops sold all around the world like tobacco, and especially cotton.
Slaves were forced to work hard labor jobs in the south like collecting cotton. They had to follow slave codes which were laws that controlled every aspect of their lives.
Free African Americans in the south had very few rights and were usually rejected from jobs. Their children were denied the right to attend public schools. They could not vote or any of those rights. If a whits person lies and says that one is their slave they cannot defend themselves.
