  • John Adams
  • Marbury Vs. Madison
  • William Marbury
  • By: Alex Huynh
  • John Marshall
  • James Madison
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • HAHA I will make the entire Supreme Court consist of Federalist!
  • Congratulations William Marbury, you are now the new Justice of Peace for the District of Columbia! Sorry for calling you here last minute but I wanted to make sure you got this job!
  • Wow, thank you so much sir for giving me this job!
  • This is so awesome! These past few days so many of my Federalist friends have been getting promotions, and now I have been given one!
  • Why is Adams appointing so many judges before my inauguration... and why are they all Federalist! A Supreme court dominated by Federalist is the exact opposite of what I hoped to have!
  • Hmmm increasing Federal power last minute... This will make things difficult for us Democratic- Republicans...
  • The Marbury vs. Madison case is considered to be one of the most significant events in American politics and history. The case itself would not exist if it weren't for five key figures that helped guide this case into existence with the help of a few key events.
  • It's been two long years of disappointment and James Madison has refused to install me into my position as the Justice of Peace for the District of Columbia! I have no choice but to sue and hope that my fellow Federalist in the Supreme Court get me my job!
  • During John Adams last few months as the President, he passed the Judiciary Act of 1801. Under this act John Adams appointed as many Federalist judges as he could between the election of 1800 and Jefferson's inauguration in 1801. Adams made multiple last minute appointments to ensure that Jefferson would face a firm Federalist judiciary. Among these last minute appointments was William Marbury
  • After much discussion we are sorry to say that we will not be giving you your job as it is unconstitutional.
  • I knew it was to good to be true!
  • After hearing Adams appointments, both Jefferson and Madison were frustrated by the Federalist control over the courts. Both Democratic- Republicans were worried to face a Federalist court. In addition, Jefferson would be able to do little once President because judges received their appointments for life.
  • Judicial review is the principle that the Supreme Court has the final decision in interperating the Constitution. This principle passed by Marshall angered Madison and Jefferson, however they agreed with him as he decided Marbury vs. Madison in their favor. In the end, Judicial review helped create a balance between the three branches.
  • William Marbury's case made it's way to supreme court where he argued that he should receive his job that he waited so patiently for.
  • The court denied Marbury's claim which soon led to the establishment of Judicial review.
  • WHY?!?! I Would have done so good!
  • The Supreme court decision Marbury vs. Madison helped finalize the concept of checks and balances. This decistion gave the court the power of Judicial review/ the power to declare laws unconstitutional. The Marbury vs. Madison trial gave the court the power to interoperate the Constitution.
