  • James Madison served as the 4th president of the united states from 1809 to 1817. He asked congress for a declaration of war to start the war of 1812.
  • Francis Scott Key and Fort McHenry
  • O say can you see...
  • The main causes of the war of 1812 are Indian resistance and impressment. The Indian resistance is when the British began to supply the Indians with guns to fight Americans with. impressment is when the British attacked American trading ships and made the sailors enlist in the British​ army.
  • Andrew Jackson and the battle of New Orleans
  • The first major battle of the war of 1812 was held in the great lakes. In this battle Oliver Perry, commander of the US army, lost his ship to British forces. perry retreated to another us ship. On that ship, he took down the remaining British forces and won the battle.
  • Effects of War
  • Wow!! Look at this technology​!!
  • The British tried an attack on fort McHenry next. They bombarded the fort from the sea for hours. Francis Scott Key, A prisoner of war on a British ship, was inspired by the battle to write the nation anthem. The British were not able to take the fort.
  • The British then attacked New Orleans. The battle was very one-sided with the Americans haveing the higher ground and killing over 2000 British soldier while only losing 8. The war was decided​ over and Andrew Jackson came home a war hero.
  • The war was over and it had affected America in a big way. Since the Americans were blocked from trading with the British they had to supply for them selfs. This caused a growth in industry and started the industrial revolution​.
