Build/make our own houses, clothes, furniture and produce most of our own food. Language and culture are very important. Most people outside the two main cities are farmers. Lumber is the main natural resource.

Further rail expansion is impossible because owners are almost bankrupt.
Solution: We had an alliance with Ontario. We send them workers to maintain their forests in return for helping us build a railway. We also used the wood from trees to make the railway.
This meant that we didn't put any money into having a railway expansion over Quebec and Ontario.
