  • Aizha can you explain what is a cybercrime?
  • Other crimes uniquely involve technology and did not exist before the development of computers and the Internet.
  • A Cybercrime is a wide range or actions that involve computers and computer networks in criminal activities.
  • Some of these activities are based on traditional crimes such as theft or stalking.
  • Examples of these crimes include spamming , denial-of-service and " phishing."
  • Illegal downloading, or the duplication and distribution of music, is often called " music piracy" and can take many forms.
  • Another common Internet crime is the transmission of obscene images, movies, and sounds.
  • Concern that children may be harmed by such material on the internet made available on public school computers.
  • Congress passed the Children's Internet Protection Act in 2000.
  • This act requires that all public school and libraries purchase and install filtering software on all of their students-accessible computers.
  • In 2003 the Supreme Court determined that this law did not violate the First Amendment rights of those sending and receiving information on the Internet.
  • State and federal law enforcement officers in the United States also collaborate to prevent computer and cyber-based terrorist attacks.
  • Computers have become a way of life for almost everyone in today's society. Courts , Congress state legislatures , and law enforcement officials will continue to deal with new criminal law.
