The narrator decides to murder the old man because the old man's eye bothered him.
Every night at midnight before the narrator killed the old man, the narrator visited his chambers but his eye was always closed.
On the eighth night, the narrator laughs which causes the old man to turn in his sleep. The narrator waits a hour to open the door, now the old man's eye is open.
The narrator notices the old man's heart gets louder and louder. He kills the old man by dragging him to the floor and putting the bed over him. After this the narrator hides the body under the floor boards.
The police show up at the front door. The narrator welcomes the gentleman in and lead them to the old man's room where they sat and chatted.
The narrators starts to hear a noise coming from under the floor boards. His mind starts to take over by all these questions popping in his head. At the end the narrator could not stand the noise any longer so shrieks.
