Storyboard Text

  • Today class we'll be learning how to do area and circumference
  • When you're doing area and circumference, the distance from the centre of a circle to the edge is called the Radius. While the distance from one edge of a circle to another (passing through the centre) is called the diameter. And the distance all the way around the circle is called the Circumference
  • The next thing in area and circumference is finding the circumference. The formula is C=Pi*D. Pi means 3.14 so whatever the diameter is you multiply it by 3.14 Here is an example. C=3.14*8=25.12
  • 8cm
  • so the answer is 43.96
  • So I would multiply 14*3.14 and that'll give me 43.96
  • Now I want to see if you guys really get it. Solve the problems on the board.
  • 14cm
  • This is actually much easier than i expected
  • 198cm
  • Good guys. Now in order to find the area of a circle you'll need to add the 2nd power sign to the radius number and then multiply it by pi. A=3.14*7 To the 2nd power=153.86cm2
  • 7cm
  • If you were given the diameter. You would use half of that number as the radius. On the board is an example. the diameter number is 8cm so I'll take half of that which is 4 and put the 2nd power sign on it then multiply it by 3.14
  • 8cm
