  • Roderick Usher suffers from a peculiar sensitivity of temperament, where the slightest touch, light, or sound physically harms him. The only person he finds comfort in is his sister, Madeline, who is very close to death.

  • But evil things, in robes of sorrow, Assailed the monarch`s high estate; (Ah, let us mourn, for never morrow Shall dawn upon him, desolate!) And, round about his home, the glory That blushed and bloomed Is but a dim-remembered story Of the old time entombed.
  • For days the narrator makes the journey to arrive at the remote melancholy residence of Roderick Usher.

  • Madeline, still alive in her coffin, screams for her brother for eight days until she breaks free as a ghost to take revenge of Roderick.
  • A verse from a song Roderick sang entitled "The Haunted Palace".
  • As the last Usher dies, the House crumbles from within and falls until there is nothing left standing.
