Presenting the plan for creating a community feel in class
Mrs. Brown is welcoming the students to the first day of school. She wants to see to it that the students make it to class and reminds them to be careful since it is wet outside. She lets them know that once they are inside and dry they will get to know each other better. Now let's get out of this rain!
To begin, Mrs. Brown tells the students about herself. She talks about her pets and hobbies to help loosen the students up. She asks them to share details about their likes and dislikes as well as their hobbies.
Next, we will discuss a classroom behavior plan as a group. I would really love for all of you to participate! What distracts you in class? What classes have you enjoyed before and what was it about them that you enjoyed? What can I do to help you succeed?
During recess we will play safely and be friendly with our classmates. We want everyone to feel comfortable. Remember that it is the first day of school. If you see someone sitting by themselves, invite them to come and play. You never know what amazing friends you will make here!
Sometimes disagreements will happen. We can sit down and talk about what happened one person at a time and get through this as a group. Mrs. Brown knows the importance of addressing the issues.
Mrs. Brown reminds the students that school is full of students from different walks of life. She cannot promise that it will always be easy, but she can promise that her class is a safe place for students to learn and grow together.
