  • Expoition
  • Conflict
  • Rising Action
  • The narrator describes how he "is not mad'' and how he lives with the old man.
  • Climax
  • He then explains how he loves the old man, but hates his "vulture eye".
  • Falling Action
  • The narrator watches the old man fall asleep every night, while shining a lantern on the eye.
  • Resolution
  • Eventually, he suffocates the old man and kills him.
  • After this, he cuts off his arms and legs and puts him under the floorboards.
  • After this occurs, the police come in the morning after hearing a complaint of a scream. They come in and ask him questions about the event. The narrator begins to believe that he can hear the mans heart beating. It gradually gets louder and louder, forcing him to confess.
