  • Attempt to win aid and assistance from Western European monarchs.
  • Great Northern War
  • Peace has been made with the Ottoman Empire and now the great Northern War is being taken placed.
  • Peter the Great was one of Russia's greatest reformers. He increased czar's power.
  • End of Northern War
  • Peter visited the West. In 1697 he embarked on the "Grand Embassy" which was a long visit to western Europe.
  • St. Petersburg
  • Peter secured peace with the Ottoman Empire and after that he gained territory in the Baltic states.
  • Once the Northern War ended, Peter captured the Swedish fortress of Nyenskans and westernized Russia. This led to the establishing of St. Petersburg.
  • Peter established St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg is a busy seaport that made it easier to travel to the West. It promoted education and growth. He died 1725.
