  • Exposition
  • Conflict
  • Resolution
  • the crowd in the small village gathers around for the lottery that takes place every year in June. Everybody from each family gets a piece of paper from the box. Mr. Summers is in charge of the lottery.
  • Climax
  • The conflict rises when Tessie's husband is the center of attention. Tessie begins yelling that it is not fair and Bill did not get enough time to draw.
  • Falling Action
  • The entire Hutchinson family was called up to the box and Mr. Summers put five slips of paper in the box including the one Bill had in his hand.
  • Resolution
  • Each member of the Hutchinson family draws a piece of paper from the box. All the papers were blank except for Tessie's and hers had a black dot on it.
  • Tessie screams it is not fair or right and the villagers gather in a circle around her. They wanted to get done before noon dinner.
  • As Tessie scream she get hit with a stone. The villagers throw more rocks at Tessie.
