  • Year: 1845 Republic of Texas voluntarily asks to be annexed. United States Agrees
  • Good sir! For the mutual benefit of our nations, I propose that you, the United States of America, annex us, Texas.
  • OF COURSE! We gladly accept!
  • Slave States and Texas' first Presidents were ardent supporters of annexation.
  • Yes! We need this! With the support f the United States, we can defend ourselves from Mexico!
  • Yeah, sure! And slavery can spread too!
  • Mexican leaders warned the United States that if it tried to make Texas a state, it would declare war. Mexico never formally acknowledged as independent. Viewed them as a state in open rebellion, needing to be reconquered.
  • If you go through with this, you will regret it!
  • Lolz. Whatever you say man.
  • The United States annexed Texas and they and Mexico went to war. Conflict: Over where Texas' border should be.
  • Die American!
  • NEVER!
  • Now, it is popular belief that the popular belief of that time was the following: That Annexation = Good And No Annexation = Bad
  • But in reality, there were quite a few differing opinions. Many wanted Texas to remain independent. Others thought Texas should be taken over by Mexico, while others wanted it to happen for the protection of its citizens. More perspectives than just from America.
