I'm Hernan Cortes, a Spanish conquistador.
Cortes allies with local Indians on his way to Tenochtitlan.
We'll ally with you against our hated Aztec rulers.
November 8, 1519, the Spaniards and 1,000 Tlaxcaltec warriors entered Tenochtitlan unopposed because the Aztec ruler Montezuma believed he was the god Quetzalcoatl. This was because it was the "One Reed" year that Quetzalcoatl was supposed to return.
Let's find Montezuma!
After a meeting with Montezuma, Cortes took Montezuma hostage so he could govern the empire through him.
I will take you hostage!
1520 Panfilo de Narvaez is sent to arrest Cortes and regain control of the expedition, but is defeated.
You are now my soldiers!
Cortes returns and finds Tenochtitlan in a state of chaos.
