  • The French Revolution
  • Riot of the 3rd Estate
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette were the absolute monarchs of France. They lived in luxury ignoring the struggle outside their palace walls
  • Escape Attempt
  • The peasants and workers were furious due to the outrages prices for food and the lavish lifestyle of their royalty. The working population was carrying the majority of the taxes and had very little influence for politics
  • Lots of Blood
  • Third Estate delegates found themselves locked out of their meeting room. They met in a tennis court and promised to form new constitution. Members of the clergy who favored reform joined the Third Estate delegates
  • Napoleon makes changes
  • Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette try to escape France to take refuge in Austria however they were spotted and returned to their palace but to live a much less luxurious then they had previously enjoyed
  • Louis XVI was killed at the guillotine to the delight of the people. Many other executions followed his at the will of Robespierre. Thousands were killed to suppress any attempt to over throw or slow the revolution
  • Napoleon Bonaparte got rid of corrupt public officials, set up a national bank and opened public schools for all children. These changes helped France however eventually he too became corrupt from the power
