The Argo's first stop was an island called Lemnos, " a strange island where only women lived" (Hamilton, 125). They welcomed the Argonauts and gave them food and garments for their journey.
Phineas, a man who displeased Zeus was punished. Harpies would come down and devour his food so he could not eat. The sons of the North Wind followed the Harpies as they left and "struck at them with their swords" (Hamilton, 127).
There was a terrible serpent that Medea approached "fearlessly and singing a sweet magical song she charmed it to sleep" (Hamilton 131) so that Jason could take the Golden Fleece.
