Exposition- Monsieur and Madame Loisel were invited to a fancy party with upper class people. Madame Loisel is upset because she doesn't have a dress or jewels to wear.
Rising Action- Madame Loisel buys her dress with four hundred francs and borrows a diamond necklace from her friend Madame Forestier.
Climax- At the party, Madame Loisel has a great time at the party and she looks beautiful in her gown and jewelry. However, when the Loisel's get home, she realizes that the necklace is gone.
Conflict- Madame Loisel lost the diamond necklace she borrowed from Madame Forestier and she can't find it.
Falling Action- The Loisel's take on an enormous amount of debt to pay for a look-alike necklace. After ten years they finally pay it off.
Resolution- One day, Mathilde Loisel is walking in town when she sees Madame Forestier. Her old friend doesn't recognize her, so Madame Loisel tells her what happened. Madame Forestier explains that her own necklace was a fake.
