  • "Go Burn The Books"
  • Faber, one of the main characters in "The Fireman:" begs Montag to not burn a certain book. It relates to the theme, because he cares so much for the book, and he doesn't want anything to happen to it. It's not about the actual book, it's about what's in the book.
  • "'yes, yes, anything, but don't ruin the books, don't. I never thought a book could mean so much to me." (305)
  • This quote explains that people lost themselves, and when they started reading books, they found themselves again.
  • "I had seen thousands careen into my library starved, and leave well-fed. I had watched lost people find themselves. I had known realists to dream and dreamers to come awake in this marble sanctuary where silence was a marker in each book.
  • (pg. 266), a woman chooses to burn with her books, because she disagreed with the law and felt there was no reason to live if she can't live authentically.
  • "The woman in the door, reaching with contempt toward them all, struck a march against the saturated wood. People ran out of houses all down the street."
  • montag is showing faber what burning books does to people by ripping up one of the books that faber loves. So faber agrees to help him.
  • "Do you see? he said with a fistful of pages in his hand."
  • Fireman come in the Leahy's house looking for books, after Montag plants them in his house.
  • "Firman's job was to burn books because books were illegal."
