The Scarlett Ibis SYMBOLISM
By: Ryan S,Alyssa B, Cody G
The coffin represents death and what is soon to come. It is shown early in the story almost as a foreshadow of things to come up later on in the story. It sits there almost as a reminder that he was never set to live because of his disabilities.
The storm before Doodle's death represents chaos and it also foreshadows the tragedy, the dark clouds at the end also symbolize these things
The Ibis in the story is a symbol for Doodle, it described the birds lanky legs and it has no strength. I believe its big fall at the end of the story shows the similarities between the two.
The color red is talked about many times in this story, the bleeding tree at the beginning, and the blood stained shirt after Doodle died. The red represents blood directly but fatality indirectly, it is hinted throughout the story along with other things revolving around death.
Doodle walking is a symbol of love from his brother, this is the first time he has shown any real compassion or interest for Doodle. It is a bonding and proud moment for the two of them.
