  • Selkirk went to Montreal to visit his colony but on the way he met Macdonald who told him about the battle of 7 oaks. So he then moved west and took control of the NWC depot of Fort William and Red River.
  • Here is your 100 pounds of tobacco for the land!
  • Selkirk made a treaty with the Ojibwa and Cree Nations taking control of Red River valley, Red River and Assiniboine River. Selkricks payment was 100 punds of Tabaco per year.
  • Selkirk believed that he solved the conflict and he travelled to London. Where he was faced with lawsuits for the actions of his employees. HE spent the next 3 years in court and died in 1820.
  • Oh no he's dead!
  • In 1820 HBC and NWC were struggling so they joined companys since this was the only way to survive.The new company was called Hudson Bay Company. NWC controlled 55 shares and HBC controlled 45.
  • Let's combine our companies to make one big one.
  • HBC now controlled more then half of modern Canada. HBC downsized workforce in 1821. The head HBC, George Simpson returned in 1830 and brought his 18 yeard old bride.
  • I'm back with my young bride!
  • In 1832, Simpson's infant son died and Simpson and his wife left to England. They later returned to BNA and settled in Montreal. He continued to travel throughout his empire until his death in 1860.
  • I'm going to leave Montreal and travel my empire until I die!
  • What a great idea, but I think i'll stay here.
