Longhorns came to Texas in the mid-1800's. Longhorns were well in Texas thriving on it's native grasses. People used their horns to make cups and household items. when the civil war started the need for beef increased rapidly.
Cattle drives is a way that Texans moved cattle from one place to another. Many ranchers ignored their herds because Texas was separated from all confederate states east of the Mississippi River .
After Spanish arrived in Mexico in 1519. Ranches were established and stocked with cattle. Land owners mounted native Indians on well trained horses and taught them to handle cattle.
