  • Rome fought Carthage and Carthage lost the war and had to give up Spain and also had to pay a big fine.
  • Rome won the first Punic War in 241 BC
  • Rome breaks its partnership with Carthage and takes over Sicily. Rome was incharge and takes over Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica.
  • Carthaginian Ships
  • Carthage wanted control of Sicily but the Romans wanted control of Sicily also that started the first Punic War.
  • How Carthage became allies with Spain
  • Carthage had colonies on Sicily, so the Romans sent on an army. The army lasted for twenty years. Finally, Rome won the first Punic War in 241 B.C.
  • Romans built ships designed to hook onto sides of Carthaginian ships. The Carthaginians did that so that they didn't have to face them face to face.
  • When Carthage lost Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica in the war, Carthage tried to become friends with Spain. And soon enough Rome ended up with Spain.
