Storyboard Text

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act
  • Today on May 30, 1854, We as Congress announce the new Kansas-Nebraska Act which will allow the people of the territory to decide whether or not to be slaves or free.
  • North's Viewpoint
  • WHAT??? This is not fair at all. The Missouri Compromise was our long-term dividing line, and now this act will upset it!
  • South's Viewpoint
  • YES!!!! This Missouri Compromise has given equal control rather than extended control to us. Now we might have more states in support than the North!!
  • Pro Slavery Dominance in first Kansas election (or not!)
  • Stop the voting right now! We just got evidence from the North that these people are frauds. Arrest them!
  • All pro-slaves come and vote for the election. Don't let anyone else vote; we should be the dominant people
  • Attention citizens! Please come and cast your vote for the presidential election.
  • Second Kansas election held by anti-slavery supporters
  • NO!! We will not allow this voting to happen and neither will you get the chance to vote yourselves
  • Welcome to this annual Kansas election. We as anti-slavery supporters request all other such supporters to cast their vote
  • Impact/Legacy
  • As I recall this time period, I notice that this act immediately destroyed the Whig Party  and divided Democrats.
  • Due to the increase in tensions, we will officially divide the territory of Kansas into Kansas and Nebraska to lessen conflicts though that will not be completely possible.
