A person is either with this court or he must be counted against it...no uncorrupted man may fear this court,
Abby, we've got to tell. Witchery's a hangin' error, a hangin' like they done in Boston two years ago! We must tell the truth, Abby! You'll only be whipped for dancin', and the other things!
Judge Danforth was a strict and harsh judge in Salem. His pride in the court prevented him from being a reasonable or considerate judge. Many who fell victim to his court saw him as unfair and selfish.
Giles' transformed from a silly old farmer to a courageous man in Salem. He was crushed to death after refusing to give up a name to the church. He sacrificed himself to bring honour to his name and prevent anyone else from suffering under the church.
Marry Warren was one of the girls who accused many people, including John Proctor, of witchcraft. She was weak and docile, pressured by Abby to keep up their 'innocent victim' image. She knew what she was doing was wrong, but she continued to follow Abby in fear.
