Odysseus and some of his men raided the Cicones but 72 of his men ended up getting killed. After this happens, Odysseus and the men that are left are driven back to sea and then go to find the Cyclopes.
"Odysseus and his company of men set out to learn if the Cyclopes are friends or foes."
Odysseus took 12 of his best men into the Cyclops cave. He had brought liquor in goatskin with him. When they got in the cave, the Cyclops wasn't in there because he was out taking care of his sheep.
The cyclops came into the cave to find these men. He tells Odysseus that he doesn't care for Zeus or all of his gods and decides to eat two of Odysseus' men. Later on ate two more.
"Then he dismembered them and made his meal, gaping and crunching like a mountain lion-everything: innards, flesh, and marrow bones."
Odyesseus made up a stick and made it pointy on the end so that way he could soon stab the cyclops in the eye. He first got the cyclops to drink wine and get him drunk. Shortly after that he stabbed the Cyclops, Polyphemus, in his eye.
"Nohbdy, Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!"
so Odysseus could get his men safe back to the ship, he tied them to the bottom of Polyphemus' sheep.
"I drew on all my wits, and ran through tactics, reasoning as a man will for dear life, until a trick came- and it pleased me well."
