In the beginning, there was darkness, and two beings were born. Male, Kumulipo meaning essence of darkness and female, Po'ele meaning darkness itself.
They created all creatures of the darkness, those who lived at the bottom of the sea and the bottom of the ground. The creation of these creatures made the world lighter.
The next beings of the world were Powehiwehi meaning darkness with a little light and Pouliuli meaning deep darkness
They created creatures of almost darkness, fish who swim close to the bottom of the sea and animals who live in the darkness. Everything that was created, the world became lighter.
The third couple was Po'el'ele meaning night and Pohaha meaning Coming into dawn. They created the creatures of darkness near dawn.
They created creatures of darkness near dawn, the insects that fly by night, fireflies, caterpillars and one large egg, holding thousands of birds.
