THE COLD WAR by Aly Muir
The Cold War began after World War II because the two most powerful countries no longer had a reason to get a long. The Soviet Union was a Communist state, with a totalitarian leader and they rejected U.S. aid wit the Marshall Plan.
The Soviet Union then tried to spread communism all across Europe. They created the "Iron Curtain" which was a Communist Bloc on Eastern Europe.
The Cold War was never a full on physical war, but instead it was just two countries always threatening to go to war with each other for 50 years. Not only was it about spreading Communism and the Marshall Plan, but also who would be the first to launch a mission into outer space.
During the Cold War, in America, there were social changes going on like demanding for equality and the Civil Rights Movement. Though during the Cold War they never really went to war, they had Proxy Wars where they put Capitalism against Communism and fought for the upper hand.
Significant leaders during the Cold war include Reagan, Joseph Stalin, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Kennedy. Overall, the Cold War was a time period where the USSR believed they were superior and wanted to take control of everything, but the United States was trying to stop them.
