  • And now for Jean-Baptiste Lamarck!
  • Flore françoise - A book on the plant life of France!
  • Evolution happens according to a predetermined plan!
  • Last week, you learned all about Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Now, you'll hear from Jean-Baptiste Lamarck!
  • I believe that the long necks of giraffes evolved as generations of giraffes reached for ever higher leaves.
  • Lamarck was in the front rank of French naturalists after releasing Flore francoise. He also originated the distinction between vertebrates and invertebrates!
  • It was also Lamarck that formally proposed a gradualistic theory of evolution. This theory suggested that traits acquired during an individual's lifetime in response to environmental stimuli could be passed on.
  • Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more on Evolution.
  • The theory also stated that traits could arise, or become more developed, through the use of an organ or portion of the body.
  • As species evolve, they become more and more complex. They go from a simple organism to a greatly complex species in matter of generations. These complex traits will be passed onto offspring.
